Ladies and Gentlemen, the Fabulous Stains

Spending waaay too much time surfing today. Came up with some films I remembered from the days of "Night Flight" on USA. Stains deserves notice first and foremost as a welcome respite from all those mush-brained John Hughes teen epics of the ‘80s.
The fabulous Diane Lane plays Corinne Burns, a sexy, angst-ridden teen who’s ready to take out her anxiety on an unsuspecting world. With a couple of her mates including a lanky young Laura Dern she forms a rock group without bothering to learn how to sing or play. The Stains get their first taste of success tagging along with a punk band, The Looters, and a busload of fading rockers the appropriately named Metal Corpses and a British band composed of ex-Sex Pistols Paul Cook and Steve Jones and Clash bassist Paul Simonon. In the inexplicable way such things happen, Corinne and her pals leapfrog the men and become overnight stars, in spite of sounding much like the early Shaggs. Clever Corinne pioneers an apparently unforgettable look "skunk" hairdo, lightning eye makeup, little black lace panties and follows up the image by verbally assaulting her audience and droning songs with too apt titles like "I’m a Waste of Time." She energizes what looks like an army of teen girls, who become clones of her right down to the hair and panties and duplicitous screaming mantra "We don’t put out!" Download Your Brain?

Anyone else ever get the desire to download their brain and insert a search tool? For all the processing speed your mind has and all the "hard drive" space you could imagine, there just isn't an intuitive finder feature It was 1996 and I remember thinking that the "Unforgettable" movie website was the absolute end all be all at that moment. It included a search tool for entering random words and pulling up a memory someone had entered in the site associated with that word. It's not on the MGM.com site any more and no web search has uncovered it. Any one familiar with the site? I'm stuck on a similar idea to build a tool to catalog my blog with a memory search in addition to a general word search. Sure I can use some of the Google tools and there are people building LiveJournal searching functions but I want it here (or in my brain)

What Was That Site?

It was a movie with Ray Liotta, the website gave you the ability to enter in a memory and the keywords attached to it. You could search on words and get other people's memories as well. Got to go check out IMDb to find out the movie and then see if the site still exists (hello wayback machine!) it was circa 1995/96 when I saw it.

Got Muppets?

I love me some Muppets and recently found a new few sites dedicated to their goodness.  A good starting point would the Muppet Archive which has a Muppography of all the known occurrences of Muppets. Much of this information was compiled by Bill Sherman, some of which actually originated in the book "Of Muppets & Men: The Making of the Muppet Show." The site also gets into Fraggle Rock and Dinosaurs series, watch Fraggle Rock religiously but the Dinosaurs didn't do it for me. If you're looking for another place to get your Muppet on try  the Muppetcentral forum. I could spend all day on these sites but for now I'll bask in the thought of watching Dark Crystal when I get home.

The Electric Mayhem

We am, is, are and be they whom as are known as the Electric Mayhem

VFC was talking about the Muppet movie in a post today. Of course the flashbacks come rolling in. The first one was mom calling into some radio program and winning the vinyl of "The Muppet Movie" and "Xanadu", followed by memories of watching The Muppet Show on Sunday nights after the Disney movie of the week.

Don't think there's anything cooler than a Muppet.Other more recent memories were of deciding what Muppet you most resemble during a Thanksgiving trip to Big Bear. Somehow the guy I was dating at the time was pegged as Gonzo and I by default became Camilla the Chicken - whatever.  A few years ago I used Sweetum's as a reference to a guy I went a on blind date with, I swear it was him! Now can you picture that?
