Marketing Infographics – Are They More Than Pictures and Words?

As I was updating my Pinterest board on Marketing Infographics, I got to thinking.....if a picture says a thousand words and then you add to it, does it say a thousand and one words now? Infographics are graphic visual representations of information, data or knowledge. These graphics present complex information quickly and clearly.
Modern practitioner Edward Tufte describes the process of incorporating many dimensions of information into a two-dimensional image as 'escaping flatland'.
Nigel Holmes calls them "explanation graphics" - dealing not only with the visual display of information but also of knowledge – how to do things.
How are you using them? Or are you over them? Want to create one? Here's an infographic on making infographics - I think I hear the space-time continuum folding over on itself.

Girlfriend in a Coma

Have you ever wondered what song is playing on the radio? I love my new car because the stereo tells me. Not sure what the technology is, but as I was driving to work this morning and heard (and read) the following: Jump - house of pain Slither - velvet revolver girlfriend in a coma - the smiths Fuel - metallica Rollercoaster of love - red hot chili peppers Technology rocks....but music rocks more!!

Download Your Brain?

Anyone else ever get the desire to download their brain and insert a search tool? For all the processing speed your mind has and all the "hard drive" space you could imagine, there just isn't an intuitive finder feature It was 1996 and I remember thinking that the "Unforgettable" movie website was the absolute end all be all at that moment. It included a search tool for entering random words and pulling up a memory someone had entered in the site associated with that word. It's not on the MGM.com site any more and no web search has uncovered it. Any one familiar with the site? I'm stuck on a similar idea to build a tool to catalog my blog with a memory search in addition to a general word search. Sure I can use some of the Google tools and there are people building LiveJournal searching functions but I want it here (or in my brain)

What Was That Site?

It was a movie with Ray Liotta, the website gave you the ability to enter in a memory and the keywords attached to it. You could search on words and get other people's memories as well. Got to go check out IMDb to find out the movie and then see if the site still exists (hello wayback machine!) it was circa 1995/96 when I saw it.

Love Me Some Replay

2 things in life are a certain for me, I love music and I love reading. Now I've got a 3rd - I love my Replay. Watched 5 hours of "100 Best Love Songs" in under 2 hours. With Replay I was able to skip commercials and get to the meat of things. Can you imagine an additional 3 hours of time wasted? I record all my shows now and fast forward through the commercials. Critics have said this is abusing the rights granted to me by doing this, but it's my house I pay for my cable, I paid for my TV and I paid for my Replay - I'm not paying my time too.
